A group of Clergy under the leadership of Kadizade have been preaching in the mosques of Capital Location, and gained a massive, and very devout, following. The Kadızadeli, as they are called, want to go back to the faith as it was practiced in the beginning, limit heedless state expenditure, and forbid decadence such as coffee, alcohol, song, and dance. Yet among the elites of the Nobility and the Clergy, many would rather see these subversive demagogues meet a swift end.

10056historical_info = flavor_tur.127.historical_info The radical conservative Kadızadeli movement were not dissimilar to the Wahhabis who arose a few centuries later, raging against supposed innovations within the faith, and quickly became adversaries of the Sufi orders. Their ideology gained traction during the reigns of Murad IV and Mehmed IV, when they preached even in the Hagia Sophia. They fell out of favor after the appointment of the grand vizier Mehmed Köprülü, who saw them as a threat to the state, and leading members of the group were banished to Cyprus.
