Wars with the Poland-Lithuanian commonwealth and Sweden dragged on resulting in numerous defeats, forcing Ivan to sign a peace treaty in where Russia had to cede any western territorial gains. Enmity between the two countries would remain high, culminating with the Polish occupation of Moscow during the Time of Troubles.
