Nicholas copernicus has reluctantly published a surprising and polemic astronomical treatise. On it Nicholas Copernicus defends that the Earth is not the center of the Creation and instead that it revolves around the Sun along the other planets. Even if the technical essence of the text has kept its transmission to the most knowledgeable of astronomers and academics, it has already started to raise cries of heresy, as its theories go against Ptolemaic ideas that were in accordance with the Holy Scripture.

The work argued for a heliocentric model of the universe as opposed to the common Ptolemaic view of an Earth-centered universe. This work threatened the literal truth of the Bible as well as the long-established geo-centric view of the universe. Copernicus had no mathematical backing for his argument but this would be provided by later generations of astronomers and mathematicians.
