Sect of the Strigolniki
The Strigolnichestvo are the followers of the preaching of a certain Deacon Deacon Karp, that after being expelled from Pskov came to Novgorod to avoid prosecution. His teachings denounce the ecclesiastic hierarchy and monasticism, as in his view all the priests are corrupt to a certain degree, demanding the right for sermons and sacraments done by laymen.
These teachings have become widespread among Burghers, low-ranking Clergy and Commoners, and the religious authorities are now demanding a response from us.
