4231historical_info = flavor_fra.1140.historical_info Written during the reign of King Charles V, The Dreams of the Orchard served as a lesson on the legal doctrine between civil and ecclesiastical powers. It is a tale with an underlying satirical tone with a King and the Pope as looming figures. In the tale, the King and the Pope decide to engage in a debate about legal doctrine, in which they employ two figures to represent them in a debate, with the King selecting a Knight, and the Pope, a cleric. While the debate remains a friendly one, the Knight ultimately emerges the winner, which in turn, represents the King coming out on top over the Pope. While a friendly tale, it also demonstrates the debate in authority between the Church and the King of a state.
