2573historical_info = flavor_por.31.historical_info ユダヤ人の強制改宗によって影を潜めてきたポルトガルからのイスラム教徒追放は、1496年12月に起こった。ポルトガルはほかのヨーロッパ諸国よりもイスラム教徒に寛容だったが、マヌエル1世は明確な理由もなく彼らの退去を命じた。当初ポルトガル政府は強制改宗や処刑も検討したが、北アフリカのイスラム教徒諸国からの報復を恐れ、国外追放を選んだ。マヌエル1世の命令の動機は不明なままで、カトリック両王イサベルとフェルナンドに連なる宗教的統一への願望、モロッコ征服の野心、ドミニコ会告解師ジョルジェ・ヴォガード修道士の影響など諸説ある。イスラム教徒のほとんどは北アフリカへ逃れた。
